The Brick Menu Redesign

THE BRICK
Menu Layout Project - Spring 2019
Using our best layout skills to tackle a large amount of copy, for this project we were tasked with rebranding a local restaurant of our choice and creating a physical comp menu for them. I chose the Brick, a raucous rock and roll bar and grill in the Crossroads District. The decor inside is incredibly motley, with exposed brick walls, Mardi Gras decor, sticker-covered bathrooms and half of an old race car as it's centerpiece chandelier. With all of this noise, it would have been easy for me to embrace the chaos during the design process. I chose instead however to complement the noise with something minimal yet robust with the intention of raising the status of the establishment from dive bar to gourmet staple, as the food itself suggests.
I used MDF and spray painted sandpaper for the cover to allude to the actual feel and weight of a brick. Although I still like the concept, in practice the sandpaper ended up being quite impractical.
I felt as though I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make heavy use of slab serifs in my design, as doing so would not only refer to the robust nature of the establishment, but also hint at the name of the place as well in a subtle, cheeky manner.
